RESOURCES FOR CHANGE
There are times in every person’s life when the usual ways of dealing with life’s obstacles simply don’t work.

Major life changes such as adolescence, leaving home, childbirth, single parenting, career change, remarriage, addiction or newly recovered, and losses of all kinds present new challenges requiring creative solutions.

Just when it is essential to find new and effective strategies, you may feel depleted and without resources.  Often what we need are small, yet significant changes in our life.

PROBLEM-SOLVING TECHNIQUES ALLOW CLARITY OF ACTION

Dealing with issues that we all face at one time or another may be facilitated by a therapist. Individuals, couples, and families are helped to develop problem-solving techniques to resolve conflict, set goals, and focus the direction of their lives.  Whether choosing to engage in short-term counseling or long-term psychotherapy, clients develop a greater sense of self-understanding and clarity of action.

The counseling process begins by exploring concerns, problems, and goals.  Obstacles to optimizing the transition through life changes are identified.  Solutions to difficult problems are broken into manageable tasks.  Your skills and strengths, coupled with new strategies and ideas, are used to transform complex problems into manageable solutions.

This new group is for young women ages 14-17 dealing with anxiety symptoms, academic pressures, struggles with social skills among their peers as well as with adults, sadness related to these issues, and a desire to keep high school and home life a fulfilling and more peaceful experience. We will primarily use one another for learning and practicing, and as support and encouragement. As time permits, potential topics will include personal growth, self-concept exercises, assertiveness skills, and self-healing attitudes. Group members should expect to try new techniques for managing stress such as yogic breath work, yoga postures, meditation techniques, and humor therapy.

The group will be facilitated by Perette Halpin, LCSW-C, a licensed psychotherapist with a focus in adolescent issues and anxiety-spectrum disorders. She received her certification in Life Force© Yoga.  It is a “closed” group, running for 6 one-hour sessions, with a maximum of 7 participants.  Cost is $35 per session, with payment in full ($210) at the first session.  Credit cards, cash, and checks are accepted.  An initial consultation will be required, either through the client’s current therapist or, if not currently in therapy, with at least one parent present.

The group meets Tuesdays at 6pm, beginning April 10th.  Please contact Perette with any interest, questions or concerns:  301-830-8320 or perette@new-day-counseling.com.
